Nice MANTECA, Calif. – A California man facing attempted murder charges for allegedly speeding 35 miles with his wife clinging to a windshield wiper blade on his minivan says he's guilty, but a judge is refusing to accept the plea.
During a court appearance Thursday, Christopher Carroll admitted guilt, but the Contra Costa Times reports that San Joaquin County Superior Court Judge Ronald Northup refused the plea and ordered him to appear next week for further arraignment. Meanwhile, the 36-year Carroll is being held without bail.
Authorities say that following an argument with his wife Saturday, he drove from Manteca to Pleasanton at speeds up to 100 mph with the woman clinging to the wiper and a side mirror. Police say she had been trying to stop him from driving away from their home.
