This is an excellent safe, especially for the price. Other biometric wall safes/vaults are well over $400. I did some research and found out that Value Guard makes the safe and does solely distribute to Best Choice Products / Sky Enterprise for now. Sounded fishy, but Value Guard confirmed and BCP sent it in 2 days. It is heavy-duty, will fit in between 16 inch studs, has enough space inside for everything from jewelry to a gun and ammo, and the biometric reader works perfectly. The lock looks like a mini-vault - two big silver rods that move left to right. This is part of what slows down the process, but it is secure.
Here are the drawbacks.
1. You have to hit the 0 key to turn on the biometric reader.
I was hoping I could put my finger there and then it would read (to save time) but you must hit this key to activate the reader. This is good because it saves batteries (4 AA) but in an emergency it slows things down. To have that part touch-sensitive to activate the reader would probably double the cost anyway.
2. The time it takes to hit 0, begin reading, verify, and then open the door is about 5 seconds. I was hoping this would be faster, but it does take a bit more time to go through that process. For people who want to grab their gun, a faster process would've been nice.
3. The middle shelf can hold very little because the brains of the reader/keypad is behind the door, and when the door closes, it takes up a good amount of space there. You can remove the shelves but it still wouldn't hold something 2-3 inches thick because of the box (about the size of a VHS tape) behind the door. But, there is still a lot of space on the other two shelves, and I could fit some small boxes, etc. on the middle shelf.
It is nice that there is an optional keycode that you can use, but it is LONG so it should only be used in non-emergency cases. They do provide two back-up keys in case the batteries die or you just want to open it manually.
Overall it's a great deal, and I'm impressed at how well the reader works. Other biometric safes (you can read the reviews on Amazon) that are $400 have many complaints about the biometric reader failing. And this one can store up to 30 fingerprints.
The great thing is that children are a lot less likely to get into the safe (unless they can crack the code or find the key but I put the key in another safe that I have) because of the fingerprint reader. If you don't mind a 5-second process for opening the door, it's a great buy.
