Never having used clipless pedals before, I bought the Eggbeater SLs based on the recommendation of a friend and all the good reviews I've read. Unfortunately, they feel sloppy and there is a lot of play in the pedal to shoe interface (yes I have them adjusted correctly). I realize that some slop is desirable and maybe I just need to get used to them but I am disappointed because they do not give a confidence inspiring feel. I do not feel any more "connected" to the bike then I did with platform pedals.
Also, at one point I was trying to clip in at a stop light and managed to smash one of the pedals open (one of the wings slipped over the spring allowing the pedal to become flat rather then star shaped) so I was in the middle of a busy intersection trying to figure out why I couldn't clip in. When I got to the other side I had to get off my bike and pry the pedal back open with a multitool. To me, this is a huge design flaw.
If I could do it over again I would have gone with the Time ATAC Alium. I think they have a much more reliable design.
